Peering into a prayer service at the Diskit Monastary, my fear of imposition was quickly put to rest, as, moments after this photograph was taken, the monks invited me inside to join them in their service. As they chanted their meditative mantras, eyes closed and bodies swaying to and fro amongst the incense smoke, it wasn’t hard to feel the attraction to a life of connection in the mountains.
